HearPeers Data Privacy Notice

The purpose of the HearPeers website is to provide a free of charge service that connects private individuals to approved volunteers, our HearPeers Mentors, to share the experience of hearing implants, answer questions and provide support in a direct, personal and confidential way.


HearPeers is owned and operated by MED-EL Medical Electronics a leading provider of hearing implant systems worldwide. 

This data privacy notice describes what we do with your personal data, in terms of storage, processing, sharing and deletion. Fundamentally we process and transfer your personal data based on you giving us your informed consent to do so, in relation to the purpose described.

You can use the contact form on this website to contact MED-EL in relation to HearPeers or any of our products or services. We will typically reply initially by email unless otherwise specified.  

As part of this service, we will occasionally send you a link to our survey, our lawful basis for this is ‘necessary for performance of contract’ and enables us to monitor and enhance service. It is entirely optional to participate.

Your rights in respect of your personal data.

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and the right to object. Where data processing requires your consent, you can withdraw your consent to future use at any time. You also have the right to complain to the relevant data protection authority.

Your data will be deleted or anonymized once it is no longer needed to complete the task it was given for. Data is stored for a maximum of 10 years before it is irrevocably erased.

We do not use your personal data for business purposes unless you give us separate permission to do so. Topics discussed will remain confidential between you and your HearPeers Mentor.

Cookies, analytics, social media plug-ins and service providers.

When you visit our web site, we collect the following information: date/time, notification of successful page retrieval, browser type/version, operating system, the previously visited website (referrer) and your IP address.

We use cookies mainly to restore previous visit settings, to follow user queries or analyse user behaviour. You can use the website without cookies. This may sometimes result in loss of functions or user-friendliness. 

We also use social media plug-ins. When you visit our website, these embedded plug-ins automatically connect and transfer data such as IP address, website visit, views, shares to YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

We work with providers such as Amazon and Word Press to deliver visually appealing, fast loading safe, secure browsing experiences. Google Analytics for optimising user experience. All of our providers comply with GDPR and Privacy Shield (If US based).

There are various tools, options and settings available to help reduce the amount of tracking information your browser provides to internet service providers and social media platforms.
