Mixed Hearing Loss

This is a combination of sensorineural and conductive hearing loss. There is a problem both in the outer as well as the inner ear. Sound cannot get from the outer or middle ear to the inner ear. In addition, sound vibrations cannot be processed properly by the inner ear, because this part of the ear is also damaged.

With a combined hearing loss, people complain about sounds being muffled, speech is difficult to understand.

Causes for combined hearing losses may be:

  • Genetic
  • Age
  • Excessive noise
  • Medication
  • Congenital hearing loss
  • Diseases and tumors
  • Skull injuries
  • Excessive ear wax
